Outdoor ed- background checks?

Anonymous
I feel like mcps needs to not let staff attend outdoor ed overnight unless they've had a background check....common sense right?

All staff have been background checked. Some haven’t been recently background checkedz

Most don't understand this and the rumor mill ran with it

Every current working MCPS employee has completed a criminal background check.

It's more the other staff. These staff are working with your kids every day so if it will happen, it will happen at school. Our school doesn't follow safe sport and teachers have private groups, parents aren't allowed in (yes, we check it), which is more concerning.

Just because they have a background check doesn’t mean they aren’t doing bad things. It just means they haven’t been caught yet.

You want everyone to take a polygraph test to attest they're not doing bad things?

I wanted to love outdoor Ed but the kids seem to hate it. I hear so many complaints about the food being inedible or served dangerously undercooked. I wish they would just order pizza and get bagels for the morning or something to remove that as an issue. It’s hard enough for a lot of these kids to be away from home, sleeping in communal barracks, and doing oitdoorsy stuff —/ make the food easy for them at least.

That's why you should volunteer to go with your kid, common sense

Oh wow, my daughter went last school year and loved it. She still talks about how she wishes it was longer and had zero complaints about the food.

Outdoor Ed is a great chance for students to do something uncomfortable but safe. I agree that they should be fed appropriately. A bit of independence is a good thing in my opinion. I loved it when I went.

They will be fine. They feed your kid. It's not steak dinner but they will survive promise

Do the volunteers need background checks?
