Being a donor to a single woman

Anonymous
I’m a single man and was browsing a coparenting and sperm donation website. I found a woman that is looking for a donor and I meet what she’s looking for. I completed an STD panel and I’m negative for everything including CMV. I also had a semen analysis done and all parameters were very good.

I’m not sure if I should contact her. It seems a little weird helping a woman get pregnant and then saying, good luck, basically. On the other hand she said she has a lot of family nearby and wouldn’t need a co-parent.

What do you think? I would only do it through a clinic of course, for legal reasons.

Whatever they would pay you, no, I would not do this. Children deserve knowing, and living with both parents. Children intuitively know this.

You are worried about feeling a desire to parent your child at some point, and not being legally allowed to do so?

There's sperm banks if you want a more anonymous way. I know many babies conceived this way

+100. Knowingly and purposely bringing a child into the world who will never have a father is cruel. There are other options for single people.

the people who think kids need both parents are delusional

children need at least one stable parent who is there and committed.

the world if filled with lunatics raised by two parents; mothers who stayed with the abusive father so they could say they had a father in their life.

if you want to donate go to a sperm bank; don't contact someone; you can be a known donor too

if you want to coparent go to a match making site for lesbians (cue gasp of the new magas on here and the dcurbanmom pearl set); some appreciate a known donor who visits like an uncle

but in today's current climate lesbians will be very hesitant to put anything in writing because the fear of maga ripping their children away from them for being gay is real.

This child will not exist without a sperm donor. Being raised by a mom who wanted you so much she went through this process is a good set up.

I recommend speaking to a family lawyer. It may not be possible to fully give up parental rights in this kind of scenario depending on the state. It’s easier when donating to a couple because there’s someone else to adopt the kid in addition to the birth parent.

However, I think this is a nice thing to do and wish you the best. My wife and I (lesbian couple) conceived with the help of a known donor and it is a lovely thing. He’s not involved but occasionally we text him pictures. We did everything with help from a lawyer.

Lesbian couples raising a child are “cruel”?

Desperately wanting a child has nothing to do with whether one will be a good parent.
