Dwarf Boxwood - why are they so pricey?

| I would like to have a hedge of dwarf boxwoods and wondering why they are pricey? I need about 10 of them. Is there a particular retailer or online site that has more reasonable prices? |

| Use inkberry hollies instead. Cheaper, easier. |

| DP. I love the look of boxwoods. They do not do well in my yard. Someone with a green thumb likely could grow them. I can't. Good luck. |

| I hope you have better luck with boxwoods than we did. We got about 12 on sale at Potomac Garden Center in Spring 2024. They were Freedom boxwoods and were $40 apiece. Only 2 still surviving. One branch gets bent/broken in a storm and the whole shrub goes a few days later. Never again. |

| Pricey? They are like 25 bucks each. I think most will not consider that pricey. You can get them anywhere, from Home Depot, Lowe’s or your local nursery. They are easy to maintain. Not much work required. They take to most soil well. Partial sun and partial shade. They thrive pretty well. |

They aren't native and suffer a lot from local weather, plus blight. Our native inkberry holly (Ilex glabra Shamrock, gembox, strongbox) looks nearly identical to boxwood and can be pruned the same way. It comes in a variety of sizes. If you wanted round balls of boxwood, you might also like the round ball thujas like tater tot, anna's magic ball, Mr. bowling ball. |
