So its August, you are fully prepared to attend UVA, UMD or wherever and Duke emails offering admission...wow.

An extended waitlist is a waitlist that has been whittled down to a smaller number of kids.
Notre Dame's list is the same way (but they hasn't taken anyone off since May).
Harvard also does this.. Probably more schools as well but ND is the only one my kid is on so I don't know.

Columbia just closed their waitlist on Friday.

UCSD, UCLA, UCI

The UCs are being weird with several like UCSB, UCD, UCB and UCSC saying they are closed, some applicants changing to rejection and others still saying waitlist.

Rice maybe - email sent last week about continued interest.

Why did Duke suddenly "find" a decent number of spots (20? 50?) this week and Rice found 10+ and yet other peer schools (Dartmouth, Berkeley, etc) appear confident they are fully enrolled and closed down completely without going to the waitlist at all.

You would think the uncertainty would be equal at peer schools and they would be at a similar point of enrollment at this stage in the game.

So puzzling.
