Why doesn't MCPS save money and dump COGAT testing?

This isn't a statement on the merits of the COGAT test, but rather that MCPS gives all the kids these tests, but then doesn't use them for anything, other than a Gifted and talented designation which is not linked to any learning programs.

Since MCPS has opted not to use COGAT to determine any CES/magnet admissions, why bother subjecting kids to it?

This is Maryland State Department of Education's requirement. MCPS has to conduct some sort of cognitive ability assessment.

Maryland mandates that MCPS tests cognitive ability but doesn't mandate that they actually use the data? That's pretty dumb.

Who's getting CogAT testing?

I'm surprised MCPS would give such an inequitable test out.

This was the first year they did CogAT since before the pandemic. Possibly because MAP scores are a truly terrible way to identify gifted kids and the racial disparities were huge?

IMO the question is less "why do they pay for a test like CogAT for gifted identification when they don't actually do anything extra for gifted kids?" and more "why don't they do anything extra for gifted kids?"
