The New School of Northern Virginia

Anyone with recent experience at The New School of Northern VA? We're especially interested in experiences in their high school program.

My teen is starting there in the fall. I’ll check back to report. We are very excited. He did several shadow days and loved it. Seems like a great school for academically focused quirky kids.

My teen will be a sophomore. She can't wait to go back next week. The classes are small. The teachers are very experienced and clearly enjoy teaching. The school does a great job of packaging content, kind of like sneaking veggies into brownies. I've been impressed by how they've taught her self-advocacy. She not only has learned a lot, she's also matured. And there is not a single mean kid in the school. To be clear: It is not a mainstream school. But if you have a kid who is inquisitive and engaged and isn't looking for the typical high school experience, it is a wonderful option.
