Looking at Lab 6th grade for a DC with dyslexia, who needs a lot a remediation in that area, but who is interested in math and science and doing well in those areas.
DC is currently at a DCPS with and IEP and doing outside 1-on-1 tutoring. Wondering if current MS parents feel that the reading support was better at LAB in MS vs. 1-on-1 tutoring and if the science and math was at least as rigorous as DCPS. TIA |

My DC is in "accelerated" math at Lab.
The class had a mix of students from different grades due to students having different strengths. My child is 1 grade level advanced - but there was at least one student in the class who was 2 grade levels advanced. For science - I am uncertain how "rigorous" DCPS is. I have children who went through DCPS MS science at Deal with 30 kids in a classroom and a science teacher who was out more than he was in. Lab has a robotics MS class and the students have participated in local competitions. |
It's easier to supplement strengths than weaknesses.
We switched to SN school because my child was overwhelmed by not keeping up during school and had no energy/motivation for tutoring. The SN school that otherwise met her needs wasn't rigorous enough in math, but she was happy to do enrichment math activities -- more fun for her and she wasn't as exhausted after school. |
