Country Club Invite

Anonymous
Husband has always said if he made it to Director at his company he will join the country club near us.

He just got promoted and joined the country club-just a social membership but we can enjoy the club-golf, pool, tennis, pub.

One of my friends found out and said to me “well you will need to take me there so I can see it-it will be fun.”

I’m appalled at her rudeness.

Well she only found out if you told her or told someone in your circle that you had secretly joined a country club. Jesus lady, bring your friend to the dining room for a chicken salad club sandwich.

You must have very thin skin if you found that to be rude.

Sounds like she considers you a friend she can make casual banter with but you don’t. Of course I would take a friend if I joined a club and she wanted to see it. Does she embarrass you?

Op, you are the problem

Seriously! People like OP are the WORST. “We can’t meet up that night; we have plans for dinner at the club.” BARF

When we joined our CC, my neighborhood/ school parent friends had a weird reaction. I never told them outright, but if it came up (e.g. we were selling our old pool membership and people said "oh, what pool are you joining instead"?). They would say things like "Oh, the fancy pool!". or "Oh you've GOT to let me see what its like!". It felt very uncomfortable as we never comment on finances with others like that.

Okay. Do you have a question?

What? She must not really be your friend.

Also, if it is social, how do you enjoy the golf?

We belong to a country club and I can totally see myself saying that if a friend joined a club I haven’t seen. I love events at the different clubs to check them out. I don’t see how this was rude of your friend. Your elitism over a non member needing to stay out of yours is pretty rude, IMO.

+1
Usually social doesn’t include access to pool or golf, but some clubs allow tennis access with social.

You have a tacky friend and are easily offended.

Sometimes these memberships allow you to only golf on certain days/times... not weekends and you can't book that far out ahead of time, as that is reserved for full members.
