By that I mean, what portion of your income do much do you spend on yourself to make life better? Things that are optional but that make things easier or happier for you. |
A lot. |
5% for all of us |
Of our after tax income, the vast majority of it.
20% of our pretax income is spent on needs and that includes a vacation home. Very HHI and NW. |
Most of it. |
What makes our life easier or gives us joy?
Landscaping - -$100 per month (for each season) for lawn mowing -$1400 for weeding, mulching, bush and tree trimming, leaf blowing, mid-season cleanup from spring, summer and fall. - $150 for snow removal during winter - $140 per week for house cleaning - An additional sports car that my DH bought - All kinds of electronics and kitchen gadgets that my DH buys...$5000 a year. But, he does not drink, vape, smoke, gamble or cheat. And he cooks and cleans. - Eating out - $500 - Business class ticket for me to go to Asia once or twice a year (because I am delicate now). $4000 - $8000 |

A spin-off of your question
What would we easily cut off if we had to really tighten our belts - many not so useful subscriptions - charity giving - traveling in business class - sports car - eating out What would we change if we had to - move our cleaning lady from weekly to monthly What would we continue to keep - landscaping and snow removal We could do postpone - kitchen remodelling. I would love to have a new kitchen BUT I can live with it for years still. - Garage shelving. Again, would love to have it done, BUT, I can live with what I have if I just declutter. - A new car in place of my old van. What could we do to make some extra cash - Start selling stuff on FB marketplace - Declutter heavily and become minimalistic |
