s/o What are "appropriate" jobs for older teens

Anonymous
What are some "appropriate" ways for a teenager to get work experience and earn some money?

Please provide a response with the age and sex for which each role is "appropriate."

For example, working in a restaurant is appropriate for a girl who is 18, or for a boy of any age, but not for a girl who is 17.
Babysitting is appropriate for girls of any age, but not for boys at any age.

Babysitting is totally fine for boys - it teaches them to nurture, and some little boys do best with a male babysitter.

Is this a spin off to the other thread about the girl being hit on? You are just trying to stir the pot.

This is all opinion. I worked in food service starting at 16 as a female and it was fine. I would let my daughter. I would let my son or daughter babysit but neither have any interest.

So far, only my son has worked at a restaurant and only lasted a few months because he didn’t like it, not because it wasn’t appropriate.

Nobody should work in a restaurant if you don't want them doing drugs and drinking after close.

The worst harassment of my life (and I was a waitress at a variety of places, starting at 16) was at a country club/ golf course. The entitlement and impunity of those people was shocking even then, when it was more socially acceptable. No way in hell would I let my daughter work near golf course people. They're on their own turf and they don't let you forget that they own you.

Two kids from my HS died doing landscaping jobs (separate incidents).

Grocery store? Good luck. People do those jobs for their living, not for some summertime pocket money. It's not a seasonal job.

Yes and yes.

The sheer ignorance and hypocrisy on that thread is sending me.

You sound unhinged.

I agree the cart girl is not a good idea but the front desk, cleaning carts, snack bar, proshop, the driving range are all safe non-harassment jobs.

Grocery stores are always looking for part time workers for weekends and evening and it's a great job for a teen.

I'm sorry if you don't trust your kid to cut lawns, I can't help you there.

That’s ridiculous. My teen worked at Outback and was fine. He knew some of the kitchen staff had ankle bracelets because he told me. He’s close most nights he worked (I sat in the parking lot waiting to pick him up). All of the closers walked out together and were allowed to leave before the kitchen staff.
