If you have two dogs, do you have a 'favorite'?

One that you give the bigger treat to, or sneak table scraps to when the other isn't looking?

I have always played fair, but just discovered my husband has a favorite, and has been rewarding that dog with extra goodies for months, maybe years. So now I feel it's my responsibility to spoil the other dog. It's a competition to see which dog gets the most, best treats. Is anyone else's household similar? Is this common?

We have three and everyone has a favorite or a least favorite, though least favorite is misleading since we are ridiculously crazy about them. Your dogs don't keep track of who gets the most treats so I never try to even it out.

We have 4 and our favorites change all the time. Of course we adore them all. We pass out treats and pets pretty evenly.

Wow. I can't even begin to unpack the toxicity of feeding one dog over another (I mean setting up a dog for health problems by overfeeding it is a crappy way to show love).

It's okay to like one pet more than the other, but extending it to feeding is straight up bonkers.

I have one of my own and long term foster. Don't really have favorites, foster one was neglected by previous owner, so I gice him extra love and pets (and treats).
Hope my dog doesn't get jealous - he receives his share of attention, and he's not really cuddly to begin with. As for treats - foster is underweight, my dog could lose some - so it is what it is, can't give my love in treats to my boy

Ha ha I love this post. We had two dogs at the same time once and loved them both but yea, we had a favorite -- but we treated them equally when it came to everything and anything, including treats.

No, but our (one) dog always has a favorite human (usually the one that's spoiling her the most at the moment). She totally plays us this way.

Just like children, people always have a favorite.

Why do parents lie and say they don't? It's usually pretty obvious.

Dogs have favorites too.

We have cats, and I think we love them equally.

The cats, however, definitely have favorites and do not hide this. The scrappy calico loves dh and ignores me, and the giant ragdoll is my shadow and looks disgusted if dh touches her.

I don’t treat them any differently (wtf?) And love them both, but my boy is my soul dog. My girl is more into DH.

I don’t have a favorite. I don’t think most parents do.

I do prefer the dog to the cat and the cat to the fish, but I don’t think that’s a big deal. The dog needs the most attention anyway and the fish seem content enough with their role.
