Hit in eye/face with basketball

Anonymous
I got hit pretty hard yesterday on the left side of my face and eye with a basketball. Afterward, I noticed flashes in my eye and facial pain. It got better as the evening went on and I slept fine. Woke up this morning and now that I'm back on my computer/devices for work, I'm noticing the flashes when I move my eye sometimes. Would you see an eye doctor about this? Or is this just the aftermath of the blow to the face?

Could be retinal detachment. Go see eye doc

Yes. Unless you're totally fine with the idea of losing your vision permanently...

Get seen ASAP, OP.

Call your eye Dr and explain this, OP. Tell them you’re concerned about retinal detachment. Do not bother going to an ER.

Could be nothing, could be something. Literally no way for someone on DCUM to tell you or diagnose you.

Thanks all. Seeing my eye dr today.

Thinking good thoughts for you, OP. Hope it's nothing troublesome.

Awesome that you were able to be seen so soon!

Yes, definitely. I started having flashes in the absence of an injury and was seen right away.

OP here. Thank you all. I have posterior vitreous detachment, which I've been told is benign on its own, and everything else looked great. I will go back in 6 weeks to make sure nothing changes, and of course will go sooner if I notice any new symptoms that could indicate complications.

Glad you went. I had a PVD too.. good your doc is having you back. But be aware if you see symptoms they warned sbout.

You should take them to court. Contact me. I will go after whoever is responsible and get you what you deserve. Husband, your kids, dogs, I don't care. Hope you feel better.

I know someone's who actually eventually lost an eye from a similar injury (ball to the eye caused a retinal detachment, had multiple surgeries over a decade), so definitely err on the side of caution with these things.

Yikes. They lost an eye or their eyesight? That is scary. What type of ball was it?
