$1000 account for newborns

I am not a financial person, but this actually seems like a good thing? Am I missing something?

I would like to point out a few things:

I am not calling it a Trump account because he is ridiculous with putting his brand on everything. Also, I read that it wasn’t even his idea.

Even though I hate Trump with every fiber of my being, I will admit when he does something that is fine/good. I wish he gave me more opportunities to prove that.

My kids are all over 18, so my family will not benefit from it. Bummer! But that’s ok. I am happy to see things improve for people, even when I miss the boat! I am not going to whine about it being unfair to those of us who had to put our own money into our newborn’s accounts. You know, like people did over student loan forgiveness.

This will cost $3.6B / year. So we are cutting Medicaid to the poor and “giving” their babies $1000 they can’t spend for 20 years. Financed by debt.

Most people won't care, because this 1k in an account can't pay medical bills for their child, can't buy food for the child.

Plan makes absolutely no sense. We need Social Security and Universal Health Care instead.

You want more babies? Universal Health Care.
You want potential parents to be taking care of babies instead of their own parents? Social Security.
