Should my son get a facial?

Anonymous
My son has blackheads. The doctor prescribed some creams and recommended extraction as well. Do you have any recommendations for facials suitable for a 14-year-old boy in the Bethesda Chevy Chase area?

Get him an extraction tool. He can find videos online how to do a facial himself.

That will benefit him more as he can do regular maintenance that way, without the huge expense and added embarrassment of a boy having to go to a beauty salon.

Many spas do not allow treatments for children under 18.

Just have him steam his face 3 to 5 times a week and use a facial scrub and potentially something like B or a strips. Don’t use any thick creams that will re-clog the pores.

If he’s worried about the stigma of going to a salon or spa, take him to a dermatologist . Many have their own estheticians who perform facials and extractions. Many will treat kids under 18.
You’ll just have to sign the consents and paperwork for him.

"Got a pimple? Go to an expensive doctor! It doesn't matter, insurance will cover the wasteful spending and pass on the expense to others!"

This is why many people cannot afford healthcare anymore.

Pp, settle down. Medispa facials at dermatologists are out of pocket expenses.

Calm down Janet. No insurance is paying for a facial!

Acne has the ability to scar the face for life. It’s not a cosmetic thing.

My 15 yo son got extraction facials at week 4 and week 8 from starting very low dose Accutane. It was a great combination/timing. He said it hurt, and that it was worth it.

Plan nothing social for 24hrs after. He was quite red!

Plus a doctor already indicated he should get them extracted, so it’s needed.

In general though, what doctor is going to say nothing is needed. Follow the money.
