Have you ever asked your neighbor

Anonymous
who is "elderly" (few years from turning 80) or any other older person with whom you are not very close -- to not drive anymore? Guessing but does not seem this neighbor drives more than a few miles from their home. Witnessed a couple of questionable judgement calls (ex. delayed decision when turning that was a near miss with the car from behind). So, approach or don't approach neighbor? Or speak to the neighbor's adult child about this when they visit?

No one wants to give up their license - it’s independence and freedom, and many elderly people feel it’s the start of a slippery slope towards death. Your neighbor does not want to hear from you on this. Speak to their adult children about it but any decision to stop will likely have to come from a doctor or an accident.

Don’t OP. Just don’t!!

I am amazed that you think you approaching someone you minimally know to say "I have noticed some of your questionable driving moments and would prefer you no longer drive, mmmm'kay?" would result in them just saying "Oh, okay dear!"

I would get a burner phone and call non emergency police over this.

Some states have a way to report these concerns to the dmv. What state are you in?

Not your place to talk to him/her, let the family do it or ask for police assistance if you have video

No state has a process for a random person to report an elderly driver like this.

Unless you have evidence that they got into an accident, the police will not be interested. You can try contacting the adult children if you want, but I'm not sure they'll take you seriously.

My FIL scraped up several neighbors' cars one day he was coming home late at night, and the neighbors complained to one of his sons, who was living nearby. To his credit, my FIL was easily persuaded to give up driving after that incident: it was a very kid-friendly neighborhood, and he realized he was a danger to the children crossing the street and darting after balls, etc.

Report to the DMV so they can push for a driving test. You may save a life.

Isn't there a maximum driving age cutoff like there is a min age to get license? Should be retirement age since everything in this society revolves around work.

What you should be asking is how do we get this guy a job in Congress?
