I was at the Dutch market buying steak to grill for tonight and when I was paying using my card it gave me only option of 15%, 20%, 25% tip.
Expensive food cost is not enough now I have to tip teenagers who work there. |
|
I heard someone mention this but couldn't believe it was real.
I don't know what the Dutch market is but is it one of those places that sells prepared food to go? I'm trying to understand the logic because if a supermarket introduced tipping you'd better believe I'd be voting with my feet and never returning. But you do have the option to select no. I always select no for bakeries and coffee shops and takeaway places. |
| You haven’t been there for a while. They’ve been doing this for a long time. The One in Germantown anyway. |
| I just say no to things like that. |

Tips are for service workers who are paid below the minimum wage hourly wage.
These grocery stores also paying their staff far below the minimum wage? |
| They do this at the organic butcher too. I think it's for the butchers? I'm not tipping $40 on a $200 piece of meat. |
| They asked for a tip at that butchers market in Takoma Park from what I recall. I'm not tipping a butcher to literally do their job. God, US society gets worse and worse by the day. |
They are Dutch Amish from Pennsylvania and they sell different specialty foods and groceries. |
| Did they even custom butcher them for you? That’s pretty audacious if you bought pre-cut steaks out of a display case. |
Just to take it out of the display and give it to me. |
I imagine that's probably more for the sandwich side of things and not the butcher side. |

f!ck no!
