HS orientations

Did your DC attend a FCPS HS orientation for new students and if so, was it helpful? Not to be missed? If didn’t go, did they wish they had once school started? Did your DC feel was more helpful for kids not coming from the pyramid? If already in pyramid and knows school layout, would you let it be DC call to go or not go given now in HS?

Do you mean the multiday freshman orientation they do in early August or the "welcome back" type BBQ thing they do the week before school starts?

I think its helpful to at least do the welcome back thing so they can find their class locations.

Whichever orientation you get your class schedule is the best one. Mine walked their schedule, met their teachers, and saw old friends.

I’m curious about the multi-day one for freshmen. My kid signed up. The one he attended for middle school was very beneficial.

most HSs only offer it to kids with IEPs or 504s but I know if you call and ask if your kid can attend- they will allow it.

Op - are you wondering if you'll need to come back early from your vacation so your HS freshman has a chance of navigating hallways, meeting teachers, and seeing others prior to the chaos of the 1st day of school?
