Does a high test score give you a bump in college admission?

Anonymous
For example, 99.9 percentile.

You are really serial posting today, huh?

A 99.9 percentile test score can improve your chances, especially at selective institutions. However, most colleges use a holistic admissions process, meaning they consider other factors like GPA, extracurricular activities, and essays. While a high score is beneficial, it is most impactful when complemented by other strong aspects of your application.

DCUM becomes Reddit now.

Seriously, OP. Please get off of DCUM and go and study for another exam or read a book or clean you room. We're not here to validate your insecurities.

No. It won’t help at all. Just like AP scores. AOs don’t care about stats.

Thanks Chat GPT!

A generic chat GPT answer is perfectly appropriate such a generic question.

No one except AO knows for sure OP which is pretty annoying. You can probably figure out a threshold for less competitive schools from Naviance data. I don’t think you can figure anything out for the most competitive schools. It also can be that they look at it relative to your classmates. For example, for TJ they might think 1500 to be too low but exceptional for a rural VA school.

If you don’t have the ECs, a 1580 is not going to cure the deficiency, they will still reject you.

If you are from a grade inflated public high school, it will show AO that additional academic strength differentiating you from the other 100 straight A students from your school.

If your school average is 1300, your 1570 sets you apart from your classmates.

If your GPA is slightly lower than your competitors in the school, your high score will compensate for that.

Other than that, no. Top colleges reject so many 1600 every year.

It is part of a package, and you need to have the total package to standout if you don’t have a hook.

not really. it won't hurt and it may confirm qualifications, but it can't undo anything.

Go to admitsee admityogi etc. and take a look around. A near perfect score could still end up at low tier schools like CMU Rice and UCs. It's not a guarantee for top schools.

True. On admitsee, for everyone having SAT 1580 and above, the worst it could be is UCSD. But UCSD is a dream school for many CS kids.

There are also LAC kids but I saw them also admitted to Cornell, chose LAC over Cornell.
