Only report 5s on application to UVA, Michigan, UCLA?

Anonymous
My DC has all 4s and 5s on the APs, but mostly 4s. Should she report any AP scores on her application to UVA, Michigan and UCLA? All schools will take 4s and 5s for credit, so I was thinking that she should report them under testing as well. I am reading on reddit that you should only include 5s on your application and only list the AP scholar with distinction honor if you are also reporting every AP score. Feeling confused. Thanks for any guidance.

We were told to absolutely include the AP 4s when my DS was applying to colleges.

If they see the APs on the transcript and no score reported, they could assume you really bombed it. I would absolutely include 4s.

I’d include 4s!

UVA admissions does not care one iota about AP exam scores.

For UMich, I would report 4s. My kid is there now.

Let's keep in mind the world outside the DMV. Someone had to get 1-3 so y'all could get 4s and 5s. 4 is good.

Kids here don't actually study much for AP exams.

The AP exam scores will not be a differentiator. Only the "most rigor" curriculum factor, which can be based on AP classes taken.

Report all 5's and all 4's.
When required to report ALL results, report 3's as well.

Look at each schools credit policy -- if they would give credit for the score, report it. For example, UVA gives credit for 4 and 5 on most exams, and in some cases a 3. In fact, there is not a single exam for which you can't get some credit for a 4. Why would you not report something they themselves think is good enough for credit at their school?

My kid got into UCLA and Michigan with only 4s. Didn’t get into UVA.

The advice you see on reddit is worth every penny of what you pay for it.

Why even feel the need report your AP scores on an app unless you feel there are other weaknesses in the profile? My DS accepted to one Top 10 and one Top 20 and never submitted his AP scores beforehand.

Wrong. You can, but not necessary.

Include the 4s and 5s. They will think you got a 3 or below if you don’t.

Many don’t report any scores- no matter what

I think some and not others is more telling of not doing well on the non-reported

This is my thought as well.
