Are the tariff announcements just market manipulation?

Announce tariff… Market drops… Trump‘s circle either sells before the announcement or buys after the market drops… Announce tariff rate is lower than what was planned or something has been negotiated… market recovers… Trump‘s circle profits… Rinse and repeat https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/06/stock-market-today-live-updates.html

I no longer think it's that deep. Tariffs are simply a way for Trump to get attention, but the effect is wearing off. He's cried wolf too many times.

In a sense. the bigger problem is that big business has no idea how to do long term planning right now.

Just this morning, Peter Navarro talked about the automated factories that will produce Apple phones.

So much for "american jobs" right?

This is what is killing us at work. How do we plan for our future stock when we don't know when the tariffs will actually go into effect and at what rate.

And don't start with the make it in the US nonsense. Even with the fluctuating and uncertain tariffs, it's still cheaper by thousands to make our products in China than the US. We checked again earlier in 2025. The US can't compete with China and I'm sick of hearing BUY AMERICAN! from talking heads dressed head-to-toe in foreign made clothing, driving foreign made cars, using foreign made electronics.

Some of the people in this administration and his first were the same people who championed moving manufacturing to China in the 1990s when they were on Wall Street. Now that they have made enough money for themselves and their offspring for generation to come they now supposedly care about the American workers they displayed. These people punched the numbers on Wall Street in the 90s while their own parents, uncles, aunts were paying the price with their employment.

Its another example of how there is no strategic expertise at 1600.

He has no idea what he said in February or April. Which countries have unfair trade practices and which don't. He just tweets a bunch of stuff on any given day, and then his aides have to walk it back.
