CHRVA announced tryout dates for this fall so expect clubs to open tryout registration sometime next month.

My 14 year old very bummed about the Halloween timing. |
Why does CHRVA have tryouts late (Oct/Nov) and regionals early (Mar)? I believe some other regions have tryouts early (July) and regionals late (May)?
Oct/Nov is in the middle of the high school season, and the bid regionals will be held on March 21, 2026 during NEQ2. Will the 15/16/17 teams miss NEQ2 because of the regionals? https://neqvolleyball.com/neq/ The 2026 Northeast Qualifier weekend 2 will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, In Philadelphia, PA. High school season should only be an issue for 15s or older. By end of October most HS teams are done with their regular season so conflicts would be with playoff matches. It’s been our experience that clubs are pretty understanding about having to miss a tryout for a playoff game - just get in touch with them if a conflict comes up and they will usually allow a switch to another tryout date/time. In terms of tryout timing, I prefer how CHRVA handles versus other regions (like North Texas) who have tryouts for next season immediately following nationals. The CHRVA timing gives a few months for a player to work hard and improve ahead of the next season. Having tryouts early seems like the decisions are almost solely based on performance in the season just completed. In terms of how regions allocate their bids, having a regional tournament like CHRVA is one of several models. Some regions have a power league type system in which teams play in several regional tournaments and those results are used to distribute bids. One advantage to the timing of CHRVA regionals versus having it later, is the availability of hotel rooms for nationals. If a team doesn’t have a bid until May, they’re not going to have a lot of good hotel options. |
