Getting some random flies - I think they're drain flies. How do I get rid of them for good?! |
Flush the drains with water and scrub them where you can reach in and keep vinegar in them. Cover up drain with mesh. I use a sticking. Do it regularly. |
Use the drains regularly.
Run a brush through it to clean out the gunk and hair (assuming it's a shower you are talking about.) |
We had these in our sink drains a couple months after we moved in. My husband tried boiling water as well as baking soda/vinegar. That worked for a little while but they came back eventually. What seems to have finally ended them was my husband took the P trap off and there was a hole bunch of nasty crap in there- flushed it out and reconnected. Have not reappeared since. |
You def have to clean and flush the drain completely out. They live and lay eggs in hair and other gross gunk caught in the P trap. 🪰 |
Baking soda and vinegar then a little dawn let sit rinse with hot water |
Pour boiling water down the drain. |
Once you clean out the drain it sometimes helps if can avoid using it for a week— they need dampness for their lifecycle. |
Bleach down the drain with hot water after helps too |
I have these right now. I trapped a ton today with a mix of sugar, water, vinegar and dish soap. I need to clean the drains too. |
The only time we ever had drain flies in 25 years of home ownership, we had a leak in our sewer pipe. |
Run water in them. A plumber told us it's from not using the drain and the pipe dries out.
Need water in the trap to prevent to flies from coming up the drain. |
