Pupil placing questions (Vienna area)

Does anyone know if you request and receive pupil placement to go to an AP school from an IB school do you have to accept or can you turn it down?

We are near Thoreau but zoned for Marshall. (By Dunn loring) Does anyone know if people in this area get routed to Madison if they request AP or another high school? Thanks!

You can always turn it down. If you are near Dunn Loring, under-enrolled Madison should be your AP option.

This past year there were 42 kids zoned to Marshall who pupil placed to Madison.

It got an expansion it didn't need to 2500 a few years ago. There isn't much growth in the Madison-zoned areas compared to other parts of the county.

FCPS's boundary consultants are now proposing to move part of Marshall there to use some of that extra capacity, but there's a lot of pushback since they've only proposed to move single-family areas in Vienna from Kilmer/Marshall to Thoreau/Madison.

It depends on 2 factors - the closet AP school to your residence and whether or not they are open to transfer. Plug in your address and she what AP school is closest to your address. It's probably going to be Madison.

Going back in memory, but I seem to recall that in 2008 when kids were moved from Westfield to South Lakes, they were not allowed to Pupil place at Westfield the following year.

I'm willing to stand corrected.

Lots of times, people think they can just pupil place where they want for AP.

I don't know about that, but I do know that there were kids in Vienna moved from Madison to South Lakes who were allowed to pupil place to Madison beginning when they were rising 9th graders. So if they weren't allowed to pupil place to Westfield it presumably had something to do with whether Westfield was deemed over capacity, and not a general policy to prevent pupil placements out of South Lakes.
