Cardiac Calcium Score - Went from 0 to 143

In 4 years. Now my doctor says a statin is Absolutely necessary. Has anyone had such a drastic change so quickly? Did statins make any difference for you on labs or next Cardiac Calcium score. My head is spinning from this info. Are statins the only way?

Nothing wrong with statins. It keeps it from getting worse. I started 10 mg Lipitor 2 years ago. Vivid dreams for a few weeks. Maybe a little achiness. Went away.
DH started 20 mg 3 months ago. Nothing noticed.

I don’t know what my calcium scores were but in 7 years I went from no plaque to two arteries being 40% blocked. And I was on statins for half that time. That feels insane to me. I’m now on the max statin dose.

Does everyone need this test?

If OP is female, menopause can do a number on inflammation.

Curious why you got a second calcium test with a score of 0.

I had one due to genetic high blood pressure. Score of zero and the cardiologist said I'd probably never see him again. I have no plans to retest. Do you have other risk factors?

I went through Menopause. Nothing about my diet changed. I am at lower end of weight range. I had a test in 2020 and he routinely repeats every five years. I’m a bit freaked out to be honest.

This. And OPs numbers are totally believable.

Just very well controlled HBP. On lowest dose of bp meds. LDL 100. I only repeated because he wanted me too. Very surprised.

I had 0 when in my 50s and even 60s.
But I have familial high blood pressure and my dad was dead at 57 after strokes qnd a final heart attack. Menopause, age. My
LDL cholesterol crept up a bit but the total was still under 200.

Op, are you on HRT?

Cardiac calcium score is still a questionable metric. Statins are dangerous. Dementia dangerous.
