My father passed away last year, and my mother has since moved in with my sister. Overall, things are going pretty well, but we’ve noticed she’s feeling a bit lonely and could really benefit from more social interaction with people her own age.
We’ve checked out some of the local community senior centers run by Arlington County, Fairfax County, and Falls Church City. We visited one, and while it was fine, we’re wondering if there are any privately run programs out there. Specifically, we’re looking for day programs or social clubs, ideally something offered by a retirement community or senior living center that allows non-residents to participate. Some of these places have amazing amenities, and while she’s not looking to move into one, she would absolutely be willing to pay to attend daytime activities. Has anyone had experience with this or know of any options in the Northern Virginia area? |
Check out the local organizations that help seniors stay in their homes (often have "village" in the name). They usually have activities.
Have you looked into local country clubs? Often these have older members, and she might be able to get a "social" membership if she doesn't golf. Some clubs have a lot of activities, and of course dining on site. |
Thank you for your response. We have a village in our neighborhood that she joined but it wasn't a good fit for her for different reasons. I'm surprised no one has started a business like this. |
