‘I am not the only person in this house with eyes, or hands’

Anonymous
This is my new phrase that I both need to say and hate myself for saying every day.

“Mommmm, I can’t finnndddddddd”
“Mommmm, can you gettttttt”
“Mommmmm, can you bringggggg”
“Mommmmm, where is”
“Mommmmmm, have you seen”

UGGGHHHH. I am over these people! I love my family but I just need them to do for themselves! Y’all are 10 and 12. If this were “Little House” you would be milking cows, bringing in eggs, getting water from the well, and sewing a quilt.

I have taught them to be helpful, self-sufficient, and thoughtful. They are good kids, generally. They have been loved and supported, but not coddled. And yet I am tearing my hair out because get and do and find yourself! /rant

I hear you, OP.

The parenting books teach that if you do something like that often enough, they will get frustrated by the response enough that they will start doing it themselves.

Not my experience.

Ha ha, yes, I've been there.

If I'm a helpful mood, such as when my college-aged kid rushes out the door to his summer job in the morning, asking me to fill his water bottle, I help. If I've *just* sat down after rushing around, I tell them to figure it out while reaching for my cup of tea.

I used to get really grumpy at my husband, who has ADHD, is very forgetful, and expects everyone to find his stuff for him... But now he's learned that I will help *only* if he asks really nicely.

LOL. If given a choice, no one wants to do the boring work of being clean, being organized and doing daily chores needed to be functional - cooking, cleaning, organizing, laundry.

That is why, I have so much hope with AI and robotics providing a way for ordinary people to not do these chores, not have to provide the physical aspect of childcare, eldercare, patient care, petcare etc.

Thanks for weighing in, Zorblebop III.

I have a client whose son is working with the government to build lethal robots with AI.

And yet, Zorblebop III is entirely correct.

Let me introduce you to unmanned drones used in Ukraine and many other conflicts around the world... they fly around, identify enemy troops and fire entirely on their own. And there's plenty more where that came from.

And yet, these unmanned drones cannot do anything to solve OP's problem. Why is that?

Actually, there are "butler" type robots under testing right now, in certain countries.

But can they identify enemy troops AND do laundry?

I'd just say no, I don't know, or nothing at all.

“Mommmm, I can’t finnndddddddd” - no response needed
“Mommmm, can you gettttttt” - no
“Mommmmm, can you bringggggg” - no
“Mommmmm, where is” - I don't know
“Mommmmmm, have you seen” - no

Much quicker.

Ah ha, you got me. They can't.
