Radford-campus life

Looking for current experiences at Radford. Rising senior is interested in their nursing program but also wants a traditional college experience with the full gamut of offerings (parties, sports, clubs, dorm life etc).

It used to (and might still) be known for STDs.

Hopefully a nursing student knows enough to use condoms.

Excellent answer to a question OP didn’t ask.

This is a thread about Radford.

No one with anything current? I am trying to muddle past all the stereotypes this school has--Stds, commuter, where losers go, dead campus etc.

Not a big fan of those.

DS is at Radford and likes the classes (math/art major), but not dorm life (but he isn't a partier and likes quiet). People are friendly, and surprisingly, very accepting of the LGBT community despite being in a red area. It lacks diversity (DS is one of the few Asians there), but it is extremely affordable and surrounding area is beautiful. DS is transferring to VCU next year for their art program, but he still loves the vibe at Radford and feels reluctant to leave. Don't know if this helps you, but if you're interested in visiting, the drive there is certainly a beautiful one.

Radford graduate, alumna here.

Nursing school is outstanding. Some great stats here: goradford.com

I can tell you that one of Radford’s strengths is it’s social engagement whether that’s in the form of a traditional NPC sorority, a co-ed service fraternity, learning communities via residence halls, off-campus parties, athletics (intramurals), interest groups. You can absolutely find your place here. Very social, walkable, closed campus - easy to get to know each other. Long-established freshman orientation program and best of all, smaller class sizes. I think my largest class was Biology 101 in a relatively small auditorium of maybe 100 students.

Very supportive faculty. Tons of academic support if needed. I did!

What hospital, of any size, is nearby? Ideally you want a teaching hospital.

Kick rocks. Kids looking at Radford should also be looking at Longwood and Lynchburg.

If kids looking at Radford should be looking at Lynchburg, why did you tell the person who suggested Lynchburg to kick rocks?
