What GPA and SAT would you need to consider schools like WUSTL and CMU target schools?

They can be targets for some kids. At our feedback private, top 10% kids will get at least one of Cornell, Brown, Northwestern, U Chicago, Rice if they don't get HYP. Those kids can target schools above WashU. |

| 1500 plus with hooks, so probably not your child. Also selectivity drops significantly after USC. |

| Schools in that range (and some that were ranked lower) were reaches for my kid who has a similar profile/background- 1500+ SAT and 3.8 GPA UW. Their targets were mostly in the T-40 to T-100 range. |

Echoing others, that even high-scoring students from feeder schools can’t see sub-20% schools as “targets”. They are unlikely for all.
Definitely have a competitive overall profile (including ECs), demonstrate interest and apply ED if you can afford the numbers in the NPC. |

Increase from there if from a non descript public. |

Top private wouldn't ask people here. You should meet with your CCO, and discuss any question you may have. Public school kids come here to ask because their CCO really sucks. For WUSTL, 4.0uw / 1550+ in our DMV public, and is a high reach. My friend's top private school kids got in with 3.5 / 1500 unhooked ED full pay. |

| DD got into both with 4.0/4.7 and 1530, strong ECs, unhooked from very good public. Other kids with lower stats got in ED or sports recruit. She did really well in T20-40 range but only 1 admit and 3 WL in T20. |
