Shutting down USAID cost US taxpayers $6B to date, and counting. And this isn't even quantifying the loss of key national security programs that kept disease, arms, conflict, and migrants from reaching our shores.

I am sure they have wasted a lot of money in other Agencies too. People that were “fired” are on admin leave and still getting paid but they are not working.

The $6 bn is from an internal memo prepared for Rubio. It costs money to have an “orderly shutdown”. USAID was not orderly but the costs are still there and admin is bringing some people back to finish the job - respond to legal challenges, pay for RIFs, deal with contracts. Republicans are so damn stupid. These costs were completely obvious to anyone who knows anything about government.
