The Americans or Homeland?

Would I like either show if...

I loved:

Vampire diaries + originals
Grimm
Lioness
Yellowstone (all of it!)
Squid games
Suits
Diplomat
Lupin
Burn notice
White collar
Evil
Entourage
Madmen
Sopranos
ER
Wednesday
Stranger Things
Locke & Key

I hated -

Game of thrones (thought it was 10000x ridiculous)
Downtown Abbey
Outlander
The new show with Noah Wylie that's just like ER
Ginny and Georgia
Greys Anatomy
Peaky Blinders
I loved the 1st season of Discovery of Witches but not the others
Succession but it was heavy for me - I didn't watch all
Ditto breaking bad
Bridgeton
Emily in Paris
The Magicians
Blindspot
Yellowjackets
The first couple seasons were good - but not all of Blacklist
Ditto Supernatural
Wheel of Time
The handmaiden tale
Jack Ryan

Both are much, much better shows than all the ones you liked (except Yellowstone 1883 which is amazing) so you should love them. I’m so jealous you get to watch them all fresh in one go!

Thanks! OP here - which do you suggest I try first?

I need shoes that move. Cannot be too deep - I need entertainment hahaha. I cannot watch stuff that's too serious aka it cannot be that complex.

^shows not shoes!

I'm not going for best writing I'm going for suspension of disbelief. I loved Friday Night Lights. I could not get through GOT because I don't want to track 75 characters in a show.

Part of why I like the above list is because it wasn't rocket science. I wasn't sure if Americans or Homeland too heavy?

The Americans!! I should re-watch that.

Given your list, I think they're both too heavy tbh. If you didn't like Handmaids Tale, don't think you'll like Homeland Season 1. Americans is probably too nuanced to entertain you, took me a full season to appreciate it and really get into it. (I love most of the shows on your 'dislike' list)

You might find The Americans too slow then. Homeland has more going on. I agree The Americans is a “better show” but Homeland was gripping.

They’re different. But I’d say the Americans is a better show overall (homeland was good for the first season then got boring.)

I don’t think either show is for you, but you might like the thrillery narrative of S1 of Homeland.

Thanks everyone!!! Condor is a really good show if anyone is interested - it's 2 seasons and I loved both.

Oh Homeland gets very good again!! Rupert Graves is awesome and there is also Oleg from the Americans.

They are both excellent shows. I have watched Homeland all the way through twice, and may do the same with The Americans one day.

Sounds like you disliked the sex and nudity heavy shows. Based on that, you won’t like The Americans. Lots of sex and nudity in that show. It was a great show, as were some that you disliked.

OP here. I watched the first episode of both last night.

I choose Americans! my prob with Homeland is that Carrie got annoying being so manic.

Actually don't find either too deep. I'm on episode 3 of Americans and so far love.

No I'm not anti sex PP! I lived Strike Back. What I don't like is really slow moving action shows. It has to move. I am looking to be surprised and entertained. . The Noght Manager I really liked too.
