I'm so envious of those who can. I look and feel gross. Super thin hair, sagging eyelids, quickly worsening eyesight + dry eye, crippling anxiety. I swear I've aged 15 years since I hit menopause 2 years ago at age 52. |
Sounds right. Happened to me a lot younger so count your blessings? Also don’t really believe you can’t do hrt. It’s a risk benefit calculation and I’d make the other choice although of course you’re free to make your choice too. |
Your experience sound relatively normal. How did your mother age? Any maternal aunts? Yoga, pilates, walking, a plant based diet, plenty of water, very little sugar and alcohol will help you age well. Find joy in the every day. |
You don’t say what your breast cancer risk is, but they say most women can take HRT unless they actively have breast cancer.
If the risk to which you’re referring is that you have a family history, or even that you are a breast cancer survivor, you may still actually be a candidate for HRT. |
Well, I'm your age and on HRT and if it makes you feel any better it has not helped me with any of those things. It has fixed the hot flashes and helped with the sleep. I'm still sagging and anxious and can't see for $h!t. And my hair is bizarre -- after a lifetime of straight and shiny and thick, it is now wavy and wiry and dry and frizzy and falling out. HRT hasn't helped that at all. |
I have a friend who actually had breast cancer, and she is on HRT. Took her a hot minute to find a doctor who did not knee-jerk refuse to give it to her, though. |
Talk to an oncologist.
You can use topical like Estrace in the vag 1 gram 2x a week "forever" according to 3 different oncologists I asked. I had estrogen sensitive breast cancer. Topical will keep you from painful vaginal atrophy, UTI frequency, dribbles. |
+ 1 I’m 47 and still getting periods but HRT has fixed hot flashes and mood swings and not that much else. Oral minoxidil seems to be helping with the hair. |
The change in gait could be the change to gray/white, which is often far more wirey and dry. |
Change in hair! |
I can't believe all these women who think HRT is not a risk. It is a risk. |
If someone has had hormone positive breast cancer, they can’t have hrt. People who don’t have personal experience with this or are not doctors shouldn’t be saying the contrary as it is wrong. However, it is correct that you can get the hormonal vaginal treatment to help with dryness. |
I can’t believe all the women who thing HRT stops the aging process lol. |
+1 Far too many doctors are living in the past and giving bad advice. |
I can’t believe you are too dumb to understand all these women have educated, up to date, well-informed doctors who truly understand risk, and have explained the reality to their intelligent patients. |
