Practice in this heat?

New to swim

Are all the summer teams having practice in the afternoons in this heat? Are there excessive heat policies like other sports?

Uhhh, isn’t that what a pool is for - to cool off?

It's the one sport where the heat doesn't matter! They cancel practices for thunderstorms though.

Make sure your kid is hydrated though -- they are still working hard in the pool and the heat will impact them before and after, so water and electrolytes are still important. Also make sure you do waterproof sunscreen.

Ideally, the pool temperature should be high 70s and low 80s. Maybe by this afternoon or by Tue/Wed, pool temps could get higher towards mid-80s and start feeling like bath water. Practices may not be as intense because you're swimming in a hot tub, but not the same as running around in full lax gear in 100+ degrees and high humidity.

Finally a break to the heat. It was like 20 degrees cooler this morning!

My son told me his club coach was having them do sets of 25s this week instead of the usual longer sets because of warm water temps.
