If you get seats for a concert…

As opposed to GA, do you stand or sit when the band is playing?

Went to see CAAMP at the anthem last night and was in GA standing behind the assigned seats in the boxes on the third level. I was shocked at how few folks stood when the band played — the lead singer even called out how unengaged the balcony seemed. So many people just sitting there on their phones.

I went to a concert at Wolf Trap a few years back and same story — no one stood. And when I did stand I got pressure to sit back down. The band actually commented on how subdued the audience seemed in their online road blog.

Is this a DC thing?

I’m not young — over 40 — but what’s the point of going to a rock concert if you’re just going to sit?

I'll counter this with -- what's the point of buying seats if you want to stand?

At some venues — like Wolf Trap— if you want to be up front you have to buy seats.

Depends on age of the audience - us older folks (am 58) like to enjoy the music while sitting.

And, I'm from NY but have now lived in DC for over 35 years, and DC audiences suck. They are more reserved, don't laugh out loud during live theatre, or sing along/shout out, even when you are supposed to

Probably depends on the band/artist. If the overwhelming vibe is people in their seats, I’d respect that. But I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a concert and sat. And no one has ever asked me to. They’re all up dancing with me.

It depends on the band. I have breathing and health issues so I'm lucky if I can go, so no, I'm not staning.

I purposely buy seats at The Anthem so I can sit. If I wanted to stand I would have bought GA seats. I also don’t want to block the people behind me in the seated section if I stand.

I paid to sit.

I hate it when people sing along at concerts. Absolutely obnoxious. I came to hear the performer sing, NOT YOU.

Why not just listen to the album then? I love going to concerts for the energy of the audience. Hell, my favorite concerts are one where the artists actively encourage audience participation

I saw Metallica at Northwest Stadium. Paid for seats, pretty much stood the whole time.

But that’s Metallica. Caamp is a sitting band.

Only in DC do people sit at concerts. It’s crazy.

I try to always buy front row of the seated section so I can still see if I have to take a break and sit. I’m not 20 anymore, my knees and back take a beating standing for 3+ hours!

The fact that now two artists have pointed it out is telling (this is OP)….

I went to Earth, Wind and Fire/Lionel Richie less than 2 years ago. We were all old and we all stood even in the back row!
