When DC created a college board account to take the SAT, he didn't include his middle name. He never uses his middle name and his high school transcript doesn't list it either. Now he is about to create a common app account as he is a rising senior.
On common app set up page it asks "Legal first/given name- Please enter your name exactly as it appears on official documents." So he'll need to enter his first and middle name there. However his official SAT report will not list middle name. Will it cause any issues? I don't think it will but DC saw the following on Umass page and he was a bit worried. Name Use your full legal name on all documents. Use this same full legal name on all of your application materials (including test scores, if you submit them). For U.S. citizens, this should be the name listed on your Social Security card. |
How common is his name?
Middle names matter for John Smiths in the absence of exchanging Social Security numbers. Zenobia Kurosawa will probably be okay because first name last name computer matching will be easy. |
Not as common as John Smiths but definitely not unique like Zenobia Kurosawa |
Google is your friend:

Honestly think it will be a non-issue. My son used his full name on apps and I’m sure he didn’t bother to include it for college board stuff. I read the instructions as saying “don’t use your nickname.” |
