I’ve always been told to but recently watched a video on making Mexican rice and the lady said she has never washed rice. |
Yes we do |
Depends on the rice. If I want the rice to cook up with the individual grains separated (like basmati) then I wash until the water runs clear, to get rid of the excess starch. But if I'm cooking a risotto, I won't rinse the rice. |
Always wash it. Helps reduce arsenic & other heavy metal content too. |
No. I don’t think I have the right kind of colander to do it. |
Have never washed rice, 56 years old and home cook the vast majority of of meals for our family of 4 (now 2 most of the time, as the kids are in college). |
yes except arborio |
Yes, unless I’m using parboiled rice. |
Henh? don't you have a pot or a large bowl? |
No but I’m just lazy |

Always! |
Always. I'm from a "rice culture" (India) and was taught to wash and stir and squeeze and rinse the rice until the water is clear. |
Always, not only does is wash off some on the metals and other chemicals and dirt, but it tastes much better washed |
I find this very confusing and little to no difference in final product. I grew up not washing. I try washing it now but at this point it seems a waste of time. |
