Are rooms selected by the person at the hotel desk or by the computer system if you book online either through the hotel website or booking sites like hotwire? Just curious! |
I feel like they are already selected when you arrive. Not sure whether they are done by a person or a computer though. |
Yes. They kind of pre-plan them based on arrival times, but also I feel sometimes there is room for the person checking in to make changes. |
Not a hotel employee but I think the type of room you reserve is set aside. Then, when you arrive at check-in, the FD rep assigns the actual room. That way, there’s flexibility in case of an overstay, or housekeeping isn’t caught up yet, or for some accommodations of requests (higher-floor or not near elevator, etc). |
You can call and find out or ask when you check in. Where we stay, I have a particular floor and view I request at check in. |
You usually have to call local at the place you are staying if you want to reserve a particular room.
Most online reservation/sells are just for types of room (double bed, suite, etc.) and you don't even get a choice of floor level. Though some resort type places often give you a choice of sea view or not. |
When I worked a hotel front desk we assigned the rooms. |
I work for a major hotel chain. They are usually blocked or auto assigned before you arrive.
The question is if they are close to full or not. If they are only at 60% occupancy, they have more leeway as to where to put you. Always book direct, book the bed type you need, and then put your preferences in the chat request. Then call the hotel about a week before and see if they can block your room to where you want to be. Don’t expect to get a suite or a room upgrade though. |
