Pretty specific hypothetical: you have an extra 5K/month that cannot be saved/invested/donated/etc., only spent on unnecessary indulgences for yourself. Travel aside, what do you buy simply for the joy of it? |
Gosh, I don't know. You nixed all my default answers!
Maybe a private chef so I don't have to ever think about meal prep again? |
My childhood answer.

Watch, beretta o/u shotgun, piece of furniture |
Probably spa and beauty treatments. |
And after you purchase these items? You get 5K/month indefinitely. |
Weekly deep tissue sports massage.
Private tennis lessons, replace summer club membership with year long membership so I can have indoor court time when I want it in January. Weekly house cleaners, if I already have those, upgrade or move to twice a week. Add meal prep and groceries to what our house cleaners do. Weekly landscaping. Get one of those really good therapists who doesn't take insurance at all. Standing sitter for date nights with DH. Go to more live music and theater. Little house projects -- install custom cabinets in pantry, upgrade the tub in our bathroom, replace sliding glass door with French doors, etc. |
Buy a TH in Alexandria and renovate it top to bottom in gaudy gold furnishings. Name it “The Prince”. |
Buy up front tickets to sporting events, concerts etc. Focusing on athletes and performers who are “legendary”. |
Beachfront Airbnb for a week (2 hr car ride away) |
Do you mean you’d buy the TH with other funds and use the 5K/month to decorate? |
Handbags
Jewelry A new car Cosmetic procedures Renovating my house I could spend the first year's income in 20 minutes if you let me. |
When you say it cannot be saved, you mean I can't save it up for a year and then spend $60k? Hmm...
Light cosmetic maintenance bc $5k isn't enough for actual procedures Wardrobe updates Concerts/ live entertainment/ really good Caps tickets |
I would hire an Alice. |
Unfortunately it’s just 5K to use or lose each month. Can’t aggregate for larger purchases, but something like a car lease (monthly payments) would work! |
