Curious about some threads that seemed similar to others but got pulled. Does DCUM receive frequent cease & desists or other legal threats? I’m asking in the context of recent private school threads, only because some of them contained information that was actually helpful beyond the specific situation that was being discussed and could apply to a lot of school communities. Is there a way to discuss issues at a higher level that’s “safer”?
Not trying to debate why some threads should stay up or not, just trying to understand if there’s enough attention on this site that dodging potential legal threats is a common problem. |
We frequently get subpoenas for IP addresses related to lawsuits. While we get lots of threats to sue us, so far we haven't been sued. I don't think any school has ever taken legal action against or even subpoenaed us (I could be wrong because we run this site for 20 years and my memory is not that great).
I remove school threads frequently because there are dedicated trolls that target them. I removed a school thread today because there were a number of problematic posts and I didn't have time to go through all the pages to remove them. That school is a frequent target and if you wait 5 minutes, there will be another thread about it. |
Which school was the thread about? |
Thanks for the quick reply, Jeff. It’s a bummer that informative threads get interrupted by trolls but I totally get your reasoning and appreciate your transparency here. |
Are those mostly defamation lawsuits? |
Yes. |
