track times to be recruited by Ivies?

for distance and mid distance

is medaling in state final as important as times - if times were slow based on conditions the final took place

most consider sub 4:10 1600 a recruitable ivy time

times are important in track, yes.

Schools don't care about championships or medals- all about times

DS medaled in 2 State finals with a best of 1:56 in the 800 and that was not recruitable for ivies. It was for NESCACs, and some D1 schools. Ultimately he could get into a better school based on academics than track so didn’t pursue it.

The runcruit times are ok to get a rough idea but reach out to individual coaches to get their real times. Most of the schools my kid talked to wanted faster times than what runcruit lists.

I’m a coach up here in NJ - and amazed the miles kids are running in hs to chase that golden time during their junior year track - 90+ miles a week at some of the schools up here in NJ, and I have that on very credible authority. That’s why u see many kids with peak time of hs career occurring during junior year indoor track - and little incremental improvement thru graduation.

I will say for x country state placing matters - the old adage is “place for x country / time for track”. Although the Holmdel course in NJ does mean something with a good time

OP asked about track, not XC.

some states have faster runners and faster divisions and faster girls vs boys- time is what matters. Conditions are definitely not an asterik on the time.

90+ miles is insane. Boys? What about the girls?
