Straw on Netflix

Has anyone seen this new Tyler Perry movie on Netflix? I was on the edge of my seat for most of it and was brought to tears at times. Taraji P. Henson's acting was outstanding. Simply put, it was an excellent movie that you should watch if you haven't already.

I watched it the day it came out. I love Taraji and she was incredible in this. I'll admit, during the bank scene it was kind of getting Jonn Q.ish to me. and was feeling predictable. So I turned it off. But then the next day I kept reading how there was some twist at the end, and I love a good twist. So I finished it the next day, and I am so glad I did. Because that twist was twisting!! Tyler Perry can be hit or miss for me, and there are a lot of misses, but this was definitely a hit.

I've seen a lot of people saying this was Tyler Perry's best movie, but my all-time favorite Tyler Perry movie is Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. OP, if you like Straw, you should check it Temptation out too. And if you do, come back to this thread and tell me what you thought.

Off topic, but did you know Taraji is from DC? So is Regina King and they performed with EU at the 2019 BET awards. It was so fun to see DC and go-go represented like this.

I was coming here to say the same. I abhor TP movies and it had its moments (don’t get me wrong) but I was on edge and cried through quite a bit of it. Taraji is amazing in the movie. Sherri Sheppard was also amazing. The ending was amazing. I didn’t see it coming.

Not at all! I'm not going to spoil it, but I saw a social media post today that pointed out two scenes in the movie that we missed that were clues about the ending. When I saw them, I thought, oh yeah - I didn't pick up on that!

I actually thought both of those “clues” were odd when I watched it but didn’t quite get it until the end.

I hate that there are news articles with the spoiler right in the title. So happy I got to watch without that knowledge. It would ruin the movie otherwise. I’m going to see if I can get DH to give TP a chance.

Yeah, that's awful. I wouldn't enjoy the movie nearly as much if I already knew the ending.

Every week when this came on, five of my friends and I would all get together in someone's dorm room to watch it. I loved that series, and I love thinking back to those times. Seeing Sinbad was really nostalgic.

Have you seen I Can Do Bad All By Myself? Taraji and Tyler again and I really like that movie. (Madea makes an appearance in case that is a no go for you)!

Yes, I feel like I’ve seen it a million times. It seems like I come across it almost monthly randomly playing on the TV.

One of the saddest movies I’ve seen, sheesh.

I’m in the minority as feel while the acting of the lead was good, wasn’t it a little too much drama upon drama and dialogue of the detective and others felt stilted. A step up from a made for tv movie on lifetime
