Gel manicures are so expensive

Venting here. I live in NOMA and now most nail salons are charging $42 for basic gel manicures. It used to be $30 a few years ago.

I only get mine done 2-3 times a year as my budget is very tight. Anyone else find this cost ridiculous?

They're also terrible for your nails. I just use clear polish at home and call it a day.

I just don't get gel. I don't like having to return to have it scraped off (and to have to pay for that), and I hate the feeling of having it scraped off. The only time I get it is if I'm traveling for more than a week for vacation or something. It's bad for your nails anyways.

I don't like the smell, hygiene and socialization at salons, and have always done my own manis and pedis at home, OP. I use Dior nail polish.

They’re also stupid looking, generally. The witch-point, sherbet orange dagger nails. Sometimes with a purple French tip accent!

If you are one of the few who gets professional gel manicures that are always pale pink, rounded short nails 💅🏽 then good news: you can do this at home for $1.50/week in supplies. No need to get a $40 salon job for this look.

I hate paying for a gel manicure and then paying again to have it taken off. I will only get them when I'm going on a long vacation and know a regular manicure won't last.

Can you share what products you use? I cook and clean a lot so regular polish does stay on my hands.

I agree with you. It's a special occasion but I think I will skip it and do them at home

I really dislike long nails. Something about watching women have to open things or type just gives me the ick. I also think about the bacteria under there. When my natural nails are long they are so difficult to keep clean, I don’t know how people do it.
