BBC: Iran expands dog-walking ban

Anonymous
This is terrible!

“The ban - which mirrors a 2019 police order that barred dog walking in the capital, Tehran - has been extended to at least 18 other cities in the past week. Transporting dogs in vehicles has also been outlawed.
Dog ownership has been frowned upon in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with dogs viewed as "unclean" by authorities and a legacy of Western cultural influence.”

Is there any way to support pet-owners in Iran?

Yes, surely this is the biggest problem facing Iran today!

Oh no! If only the US would invade and let Israel occupy Iran everything would be okay!

This is absolutely a crime against humanity. Someone get Netanyahu on the line and let him know we've found the perfect excuse to go to war with Iran.

Look, I love my dog, but are they unclean creatures? Absolutely.

I'm a weirdo dog owner who has a little paw bath that I use each time my dog goes out when it's very muddy/rainy. I wipe his paws each time he goes out and comes back inside with antimicrobial paw wipes daily.

I mean, if he barfs and we don't get him away from it quickly enough, he'll eat it. He's not a pristine creature, but he sure is loveable.

I didn't notice the lack of dogs as pets by my Muslim friends until a few years ago. It dawned on me that of my 4 close Muslim friends, 0 had dogs and all had cats. That's when I did some research and learned that dogs were viewed as unclean.

Respecting others' viewpoints and beliefs needs to be brought to the forefront again. There are religions that view killing cows and eating beef as a huge sin, but they aren't waging campaigns against us, are they? We have to stay out of this.

Can we get a dog walking ban in DC too? If you want a dog, have it poop on your own space.

Biologist here.

Omnivores and carnivores are not clean, including humans. Their feces are loaded with bad bacteria that imperil waterways in high concentration. They spread disease more than herbivores. Cats are obligate carnivores and dogs are omnivores. Dogs are not more unhygienic than cats.

My Muslim family has dogs. So do many of my Muslim friends. Please don’t generalize.

The word "dog" (كلب - kalb) is commonly used as an insult in Arabic culture.

Seeing stray and neglected dogs and cats in countless foreign countries has ruined my love of international travel.

Some cultures eat what we consider to be companion animals. Are you outraged at that, too?
