Have you heard about this case?
An influencer who makes bank selling herself as a mom and wife lifestyle content creator is suing desperately to keep the records surrounding her 3 year old son's death closed to the public. He died six days after being pulled from the backyard pool at his home, presumably having accessed the pool while not being properly supervised by his mother. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/arizona-jud...df6bb483e93651&ei=25 What do you think about this? Should influencers who make most aspects of their personal family lives public and make money from followers and advertising by so doing be allowed to keep private the aspects of that personal and family life which might show them in a very negative light? Aspects which would otherwise be a matter of public record? Isn't it fraud? |
That should be private. |
That is a horrible, tragic loss.
I do think overall that parent influencing/family influencing is extremely harmful. Even when there isn’t a huge tragedy like this, we’ve seen time and again kids forced to “perform,” such as when the mom was getting her son (who was genuinely crying over the death of his dog) to pose for the thumbnail in a certain way. Or kids basically never being allowed to be imperfect or “off” or simply opt out. I think it’s a terrible exploitation of children, very harmful. That said? The best thing we who aren’t in that world can do about it is don’t want that type of content, don’t even “hate-watch” or “shame-watch” it or watch it to feel superior. |
It is sad. Can you imagine losing a child and having to process that all while being hounded by people ‘who deserve to know’? Maybe there is a household member who is in a fragile mental state over this and they are trying to help them not have a mental breakdown. Is people’s curiosity worth that added pressure? |
Normally the records related to the LEO calls to the home and the manner of death would be public, so this is her asking for special dispensation. Are you suggesting that such records should always be private, for all deaths and law enforcement calls? Don't you think a system like that could lead to corruption? We have broad public records laws for a reason. |
No because the mother her has all their lives open by design. She makes money Off her kids It’s no longer a private matter |
What about being a decent person? There’s no public interest here only a dead child and a tragedy. |
If the child’s mother was supposed to be watching him why isn’t she in jail? |
I gather that you are trying to root out all hypocrisy, Diogenes? |
OP is trying to have some sort of nuances conversarion about a tragically dead child. Fing psychopath. |
Everyone is preaching “give them space, give them time, stop commenting”. These people have given us an all access pass to their lives and want our comments, likes, and engagement when it brings them joy and money. Yet now we are vultures because we are curious about the lives of these people we feel closer to than we actually are due to their over sharing.
We wouldn’t have even known till today who the boy was if Emilie didn’t show the house to millions of people online and share 2-3 videos a day. A sweet innocent boy who didn’t get to experience the world because his parents, who have all the money in the world to buy the most top notch safety system for a pool, were negligent and too concerned with the aesthetics. She turned off comments when people reminded her of the Arizona laws of gates around pools |
Absolutely not. You don’t get special treatment because you’re an influencer. You don’t get to pick and choose what’s public. It’s normally public information. You don’t get to change that. I’m glad she’s wasting her money suing. |
Aesthetics should never trump safety. This was a tragedy and I hope others are now reminded of the importance of pool safety. |
100% |
"Consequences" - shut up. She has a dead kid. |
