I'm shopping for a reliable washer/dryer set and loved my Speed Queens in my prior home (sold with the house unfortunately). I've learned that the machines I previously owned, manufactured in 2016, are no longer available in the US thanks to government regulations. The current TR7 has the features I'm used to using (and looks like my previous washer), but I've read some worrying reviews about the TR7 not cleaning well. Can anyone share their experience with the TR7?
We are a family of 4 and have the typical food/dirt/grass stains, especially on the kids' clothes, but no mechanical/farm/construction type workers in the house. The TC5 would be the other option from Speed Queen, but lacks features and is reportedly harder on clothes. I like the 7 year warranty on the TR7. I'm open to hearing recommendations from other brands, but so far haven't been convinced on the reliability of other manufacturers. I've dealt with mold issues on front loaders so don't want to repeat that experience. Cost isn't a concern. I'm happy to pay a premium for a machine that works well and will last a long time. Thanks for sharing your recommendations! |
It's not going to clean as well as the 2016, unfortunately. Can you get the old one repaired? |
Any appliance you buy in 2025 will be crappy compared with previous versions. |
OP said it sold with the house. |
My parents have the TR5 and it seems to clean well. I suspect the TR7 is the same except with the more option?
I got them the TR5 last fall because I thought fewer options were actually better for them. The panel is actually electric but it's made to look like it mechanical. It's easier to understand. But for myself I am thinking of the TR7 because I want more options. When were these reviews written? My memory is fuzzy, but I seem to recall maybe the initial reviews were not good (like maybe late teens or early 20s?) and then they made some changes and the newer ones are better. Please update us if you do get it! |
OP here. The buyers agreed to a no contingencies sale IF we would leave behind the Speed Queens. Should have been our clue that those machines were special!
Yes, I think the TR7 has the same cleaning technology as the TR5 so that's great to hear that it has been working well for your parents. |
Can you eait a few years?
Maybe they will bring back the good washing machines thanks to the trump exo reverting biden's appliance regulations. |
14:41 Ha! Probably not a practical solution in our case. Apparently Speed Queen does still sell the 2016 model I previously owned in Australia, so would be amazing if they could bring that one back to the American market. |
I have TR5 and it seems perfect. I don't know how it could have been even better before. |
If you can find a basic Hot Point top loader used, those also clean. Yeah, when trump was going on about the shower heads I was screaming at the TV "The WASHING MACHINES! Bring back Speed Queen washing machines!" |
I have a 2017 Speed Queen with digital control. It's pretty much the same as the pre-2016 models with an exception of a Normal/Eco mode which I never use. It has the same wavy old school agitator fin as the TC5, and it cleans clothes well.
Cleaning performance and reliability are the most important factors for my choosing Speed Queen. If I have to buy one today, I would choose the TC5 over TR7 due to its better cleaning performance. |
I think that ship has sailed. Besides, OP needs a washer now. |
I think that would have been my hill to die on. I told DH those machines are coming with us to our retirement house. |
Do movers "move" appliances? Honest question, no snark intended. I would love to take my fridge and washer and dryer to my next home. |
I've never moved a fridge, but had no problems moving a washer and dryer. The movers had some sort of kit to stabilize the drum and then they removed that when we moved into the new house. |
