I got a call that a relative who lives in Akron, OH died and I’m the next of kin. I can handle the funeral arrangements, but am panicking about a cat in his apartment. The landlord said there was food out yesterday, but I need to figure out quickly how to get this cat rescued from this apartment before it starves. I’ve called a few Akron-area rescues and they’re full. Does anyone have any creative ideas for where I can look for help with this? Anyone BTDT? |
I would go to Rover.com and find a cat sitter that would be willing to pick up the cat. You'd need to pay extra for the service, but hopefully the landlord can let the person in. |
Can the landlord either feed the cat or give a key to a pet sitter until you can arrive? Otherwise you can call animal control, I guess. |
If there is a pet animal at risk of starving, call the local animal control officer and/or the police, or the local branch of ASPCA. |
Thanks all. Landlord (senior public housing) is decidedly unhelpful and won’t go in. I’ll try some of these other suggestions! |
I went to Rover, and put in a random address in Akron (I picked a chick fil a, because I have never been to Akron).
Here is a list of cat sitters that have space today: https://www.rover.com/search/?utm_medium=cpc&..._source=search-modal I bet one would do pick up. |
Thanks so much for the help! I’m reaching out to some now. |
Good on you, PP. This is such a kind thing to see. I hope your willingness to jump in and help a stranger comes back to you tenfold. |
OP Update: Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I found an amazing local pet sitter to go check on the cat. She was not able to capture it, but did feed it and confirm it’s doing okay. I’m headed to town to capture it myself and search for a local rescue to help rehome it. |
