It’s shocking to me that had Marilyn Monroe lived - she would have turned 99 years old today.
Never has another celebrity existed that had what she did - a vulnerable, child~like innocence coupled w/a sensual sex kitten aura. She was also a very talented actress who had a breathless + strong singing voice as well. Do you have a favorite film 🎥 of hers? Mine is probably Niagara…. |
It was a different era because it was considered okay for a woman to mostly look pretty and let a man control her. It was almost like her role was to be an object for men. I wonder what she would have thought of that if she had lived to be 50 and could look back on it.
I do feel sorry for her getting caught up with the Kennedy family because I don't think she understood the ruthlessness of politics. At least in Hollywood her looks gave her great agency, but she was just an object to JFK and RFK. That's very tragic. It is crazy to me how her aesthetic with the short blonde hair and red lip has lived on to this day. Almost every blonde actress has done a "Marilyn inspired" red carpet look. I remember it all the way back to Madona in "Material Girl" and a whole year of Scarlett Johnassen's career in the early 2000's. More recently Florence Pugh has done a lot of Marilyn Monroe looks. Idon't think we will ever see that type of style influence again. |
^^ That is so true about Marilyn’s style influence.
Her style was and is very timeless. Many women since her have emulated her style and beauty, because she died so young she will forever be regarded as young and beautiful. |
I wonder if Marilyn had lived past thirty-six, what would her life had looked like.
Would she have remarried Jolting Joe as the media at the time reported? Even though she was unquestionably the most beautiful woman alive (aside from Liz Taylor of course!), would she ever have found a man who could truly love her? Would she have had children? Rumor had it she was barren but I wonder how true that actually was. Would her career have been as huge as it ended up being after her death? Did dying young make her a legend?? In her final years she did gain back some weight, plus her hair looked really dried out from years + years of harsh bleaching. Plus her skin didn’t retain the healthy glow she once had - years of popping pills had dulled out her complexion and unfortunately she did not age very well. |
I find it really bizarre and limiting how Americans are fixated so thoroughly on Monroe and Onassis. |
I can totally see how and why they are fixated on Monroe as she was very beautiful yet tragic. And Onassis (I am assuming you are referring to Jackie O) was a very very private person which made her an enigma of sorts. Plus she was closely tied to the Kennedy family and Americans love to fantasize about the “Camelot” days in the same way that they regard the Kardashian clan currently. |
Where is the evidence to support fixation? I hardly see anything about Jackie O in the media any more. |
Walk into any dept store. If you look at American designed clothes for adult women they are either going to echo Monroe or Onassis. |
