Woodward Boundary Study -- Schools that will see the most and least change

Anonymous
Looking at the four options in the Woodward boundary study, can we pinpoint the elementary and middle schools that are likely to see the most and least change? Obviously, these proposed options are not final, but I think we can draw some conclusions from these first four options. I see some schools already that -- no matter which option is chosen -- will see lots of change, and some that will see very little.

For example, it looks like Woodlin will be rezoned no matter what. Some options have it going to SSIMS and Northwood, some SSIMS and BCC, but I don't see any part of Woodlin that will continue its current articulation pattern of Sligo and Einstein. Same goes for Rolling Terrace, all of which currently feeds into SSIMS. Under the four proposed options, I see it going to either TPMS or Eastern, but I don't see a scenario where it will continue to feed to SSIMS.

On the other end of the spectrum, TPES/PBES will continue to feed into TPMS and Blair no matter what.

P.S. I posted this the other day but it got deleted for some reason. I think it's a legitimate question separate from the conversation going on in the other Woodward thread. And it's useful for real estate values in these neighborhoods as well as for parents trying to determine how likely it is that their kids will attend a different school than they would under current articulation patterns.

Yes and the SSIMS shuffle raised the question of immersion programs for me. I understand magnets are going to be considered separately, but SSIMS serves French and Spanish immersion and Spanish immersion is (mostly) now Rolling Terrace kids who get Spanish not because of the lottery but because it's a dual immersion neighborhood school.

Since the 4 options are just a step in the process and none are actually going to happen, this seems premature. Once we have the final options, this might make more sense

But if none of the options for an elementary school has it going to its current middle school isn’t that significant? Or if none of the options has it changing, I think you can assume at this point it won’t change.

Agree that these proposed changes are especially significant for Woodlin ES articulation.

I also wonder if they will end Spanish immersion at SSIMS since that option now exists at White Oak MS.

Like tpes/pbes, ESS elementary stays at tpms/Blair in all 4 options.

This is interesting- I bet that’s what is going to happen. They’re going to move the Spanish immersion program to White Oak MS. It’s a struggling school and they may want that special program there to help it out. Just guessing, of course.

Although don't the dual immersion Spanish schools like Rolling Terrace still need to feed into a neighborhood middle school that offers immersion? Because those aren't choice programs....

Viers Mill: some options split the kids at the MS level and/or the HS level. If you live on the Holiday Park side of VMES your kid could need up staying at Loeiderman or moving to Tilden, North Bethesda or Parkland. For HS, the Holiday Park kids are shown going to either Woodard, Wheaton, or Walter Johnson. The Randolph Hills Folks don’t get WJ in Option 3 because they are too white.

Option 3 looks good for the VMES kids that live in Holiday Park because WJ would only be at 77% capacity! Not so good for the Randoloh Hills kids that would end up at Wheaton at 120% capacity.

There already is a Spanish Immersion program at White Oak. Didn’t you follow the families speaking at the school board last Spring demanding the same bus options as the other immersion middle schools?
