Fundraising for school travel sports

What’s with moms posting on fb about BLOCK POOLS to fundraisers for 11 and 12 years olds to play travel softball?
I didn’t grow up here and am trying to understand why you expect your SM contracts to fund your kids sports. I get 1 time fundraisers like girls scout cookies but these folks post every other week. Is it some way easy to trap into people’s gambling instincts?

I know you see fundraisers for the school team…but it’s weird for a travel team.

I would never donate for a travel team unless it was a very economically disadvantaged team that really needs the money and they don’t have a rec league option.

That said…posting this just on SM is a fairly innocuous way to ask for $$$s. May be an efficient way to get some $$$$s from family members.

Posting just on SM is not innocuous but a surefire way to annoy and alienate all of your friends and family. We had friends who did this every other week, too. Obviously these teams need to raise their membership fees and instead prey on others for support.

Well, seems like it’s the weekly nature that annoys you. If you continue to see those posts weekly, seems you aren’t alienated because I would simply mute all their posts thereafter if so alienating.

However, making one post on SM that anyone can either engage or ignore is much different than say a kid walking over to your house asking for money or direct emails or many other forms of direct contact.

It's one thing to fund raise because your team made state and the district is being cheap about travel to championships

If it's a private travel team, I might as well be asking people to fund my kid's Tae Kwon Do belt tests and tournament fees.

Just ignore the posts. Or mute the person. What’s the big deal?

Many teams will required each player to sell a certain number of blocks or squares or whatever. It’s annoying, but SM is the easiest way to get it done. My kids have played a variety of sports and I greatly dislike the ones that have squares/blocks and raffles repeatedly. We used to just buy whatever the requirement was instead of bugging people, but my husband lost his job so now I post to SM.
