Cleats for girls

Anonymous
Any recommendations on the best cleats for teen girls? There are some that purport to reduce the chance of knee injuries but that sounds like a scam.

yes it is. The ones with a smiley face? I know a girl who tore her acl wearing them. you're better off doing weight training.

We switched to turf shoes rather than cleats since most games are on artificial surfaces. Supposedly they help but agree that strength training is probably your best bet to reduce injuries.

Those cleats with rotating spikes are supposedly reducing knee and ankle injuries

Go with the best fitting and whichever playing surface she plays on. Ag for turf, Fg for natural grass. Some Ag cleats such as Nike Gx2 are good for both also Puma makes a MG(multi ground) fit for both surfaces.

What about cleats for girls who have heel pain?

You have to get to the root of the pain before you spend hundreds of dollars on cleats possibly unnecessarily. Heel pain can be plantar fascitis, tight calves and hamstrings, growing pains, bad fitting shoes or cleats etc.

Why does she have heel pain? My daughter has severs disease. We’ve found 2 things that help - turf cleats for artificial surfaces, and finding cleats that have more cushioning. Neither solve the issue though, it will only go away with time.

Kids wearing turf shoes seem to slip all over the turf

Like mentioned in a prior post, you can look at Currex insoles to help provide support and reduce dead space. They need to be the soccer ones that are low profile and then just choose your arch type. Would also second AG boots for turf and a second pair for FG depending on level and where she plays and practices. The Nike Phantom GX2 or Luna 2 if you want the collar fit work well for a lot of women, but definitely try them on because they can be a snug fit.

Both were already mentioned, but if they are getting bigger or already have some discomfort - spend the extra for the AG (artificial grass) soleplates and get the currex soccer insoles - they are thin and have a poron pad in the heel which cushions but won’t compact/wear down like the cheap insoles that come with the boot. If it’s a recurring issue and you are feeling spendy you could look at real orthotic inserts, but hopefully that is not necessary.
