I thought I saw it mentioned here that MCPS would begin interviewing May 9th for external candidates… do any MCPS teachers have the open/closed link to share here? Thanks! |
The open close list only applies to internal transfers, the external hiring window is open until summer. There may be subjects where they are still placing transfers, what subject are you applying to |
Interviews started again today. They should be able to interview candidates from outside the school system now. |
The open/close list always details with subjects are open to external, what subjects are internal only, etc. it’s constantly changing all summer long. |
Are you looking for a specific area? Not a lot is open for external hiring...
Media Specialists, Biology, Chemistry, Social Studies, Special Education and then a bunch of random specific subject areas. |
Is PE/Health open? I'm certified in different content areas and I've taught in a lot of different subject areas, so I'm open to anything really minus being an elementary classroom teacher. Thanks! |
LOL everyone wants to teach PE. You will never get a position teaching PE without a degree or Master's in actual exercise science/kinesiology/sports etc... The MCPS PE department is very strict about who they hire. Both subjects are closed. |
....I used to teach PE in MCPS and currently teach PE/Health in DCPS, but thanks. |
MCPS teacher here-so NOT true. The quality of some of the PE teachers is grim. I can't even list 15 teachers I know who'd ever want to teach PE. |
Thank you so much! |
PE is a fast track to principal. You can spend a lot of energy kissing butt if there are no papers to grade. Also, you have enough time to coach a sport for extra Benjamins |
I met people at my restaurant that used to teach at mcps too. When I told them I used to teach I had their sympathies and condolences. I was too stupid to take my own teachers advice when they told me stories about the corruption in education. Don't become a teacher, it's not worth getting in debt for a low pay low respect job that will never where teachers are used for all the blame of a toxic society. |
Is it harder to get a job on the high school or middle school level right now? |
Most teachers that left or were ousted because they probably get negative reviews from the powers that be. If all these selfless teachers that got a hard time from their previous schools they will have a harder time getting a new job. My admin lied to unemployment back then so I don't even know if I should put resigned or nonrenewed rif or what. It was the year where there was some extreme violence and I have a feeling that my admin (regardless of health implications of toxic work and super unpaid overtime)will talk bad about me. I need a lawyer. My time at mcps negatively impacted my career. |
